Activities in Las Terrenas

There are many things you can do in the area of VillaNoria, besides visiting the beaches or the night life of Las Terrenas. One of the most popular activities is Whale Watching in Samana bay, but also surfing, hiking, horseback riding diving and sailing are great things to do when your in Las Terrenas. These are the top 10 things to do according to TripAdvisor.

Scuba-diving
You can also hire scuba-diving equipment in Las Terrenas, fill scuba tanks or join scuba-diving excursions or take lessons. The reefs and wrecks just off the coast offer ample opportunities for an unforgettable dive. The Dive Academy Las Terrenas you can find at Beach Garden Plaza. They organize diving trips over the whole peninsula.  Turtle Dive Centre is located at el Paseo, in the centre of Las Terrenas

Horse riding

The mountains around Las Terrenas and not to forget the beaches are ideal places for horse riding. There are various possibilities in the area to hire horses and to go for a ride. One of the most well-known sites is the El Limón waterfalls, which can only be reached on horseback. Rancho Playa organizes horse back riding excursions and  is located close to VillaNoria.

(Kite) surfing and sailing

Beaches, waves and the trade wind, an ideal combination for every (kite) surfer. It is worth your while just to take your gear with you and we will show you where to go for the most spectacular places. If you don’t have your own gear or have never done it before, then don’t worry, as there is a surf school on Playa Coson. Las Terrenas Sailing Club is renting out sailing boats, catamarans, kayaks, paddle boards and wind surf boards.

Hiking

There are many paths in the mountains around Las Terrenas that are used by the local farmers to get to their fields and these are all interconnected. Some of these paths have been around for centuries. VillaNoria sits on one of these old routes, thus plenty of opportunities for the hiking enthusiast. The Pico Duarte with the highest mountain in the Caribbean region, which stands at over three thousand metres, is a must to hike through. Because of its height, the climate and the vegetation is alpine in nature and totally different to that at sea-level.

Whale watching and boat trips to Los Haitises

Humpback Whales visit Samaná bay to breed from the end of December to March. The behaviour of the males is particularly impressive when they almost rise up full length from the sea. Samaná is just a 45 minute drive away and there are several trips per day leaving from here to take you to watch these whales.  Whale watching trips are being organized by the marine biologist Kim Bedall of Whale Samana  All year long you can make boat trips towards the national park Los Haitises with Moto Marina and during the season they make whale watching trips as well.
